Purchases Goes Green!

With Earth Day right around the corner on Sunday 22nd April, we decided there was no better time to do our part and help create positive change for the planet.

Earth Day was founded in 1970 and today, it is the largest secular observance in the world, with over 1 billion people celebrating in 192 countries each year - created to celebrate the planet's environment and raise public awareness about pollution. Earth Day is just as important for businesses around the world to commemorate by thinking of new ways to reduce their carbon footprint and celebrate the planet's environment.

We are making everyday Earth Day at Purchases Bar and Restaurant with the ejection of plastic straws and the introduction of paper straws and biodegradable straws instead at the bar. Since we opened in 2016, we have never used plastic bottles to serve water for each table, instead serving filtered still and sparkling water in a reusable glass bottle in order to reduce plastic wastage. To reduce fuels and transport, we celebrate the fact that we use local suppliers to source our produce and ingredients as well as training all the staff to use and enforced regular recycling for wastage items.

Why wait until Earth Day? Get involved today, take action and spread the word - even if it's just refraining from asking for a straw with your drink at the bar!
